Biography
First
admitted to practice in California in 1989, Eric Imperial brings 20 years
of experience providing quality legal advice to a variety of businesses and
individuals. An accomplished litigator, he has handled complex cases
involving contract claims, insurance coverage, security clearance, real
estate, wrongful death, intellectual property, and product liability disputes.
Eric is committed to alternative dispute resolution and he serves as a
mediator for various circuit courts in Maryland. He also advises
entertainment, non-profit and small business clients on contract negotiations,
transactions, and operations.
While practicing in California, Eric was a senior associate at Riley & Reiner
and an associate at Troop, Steuber & Pasich in Los Angeles where he represented
Fortune 500 companies, small businesses and prominent members
of the city’s ethnic business communities. After moving
to Washington, D.C., Eric served as a staff attorney for the
Federal Trade Commission where he litigated cases involving
consumer privacy issues, unfair trade practices, and federal
credit statutes. While at the FTC, Eric helped obtain multi-million
dollar settlements with national mortgage lending and servicing companies
for unfair and deceptive trade practices. Eric's legal background is
complemented by several years of business management experience
with washingtonpost.com and The National Journal Group.
In addition to his private law practice, Eric is also currently a
Reserve Officer in the United States Army Judge Advocate
General’s Corps where he works on government contract, bid protest
and fiscal law issues for the U.S. Army Legal Services Agency. He
served on active duty representing the government in courts martial appeals
where he handled and argued cases before the Army Court of Criminal Appeals
and Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.
Eric graduated from Duke University (cum laude) in
1986 and from the University of California, Los Angeles School
of Law in 1989. He is admitted to practice law in the District
of Columbia, Maryland, and California.
Eric is the President of the DC Chapter of the UCLA School of
Law Alumni Association, and he is an active member of the Duke
University Alumni Association. He serves on the Board of Governors
for the Army Navy Club and the governing counsel of Metropolitan
Memorial United Methodist church. Eric is a second degree
black belt in Shotokan karate, and he teaches karate classes at
the Jelleff Boys and Girls Club in Georgetown.
Eric and his family live in Bethesda, Maryland.
